Cricketer turned Politician- Imran Khan

Imran Khan Niazi was born on 5th October 1952 in a Pashtun family in Lahore. Imran Khan is a very successful cricketer of his times. He is the only captain who has win World Cup for Pakistan in 1992. Imran Khan got his education from Aitcheson College Lahore, Worcester and later he joined Keble College, Oxford, UK. Imran Khan started playing cricket when he was just 13 years old. Imran Khan played for his college and after that he played for the Worcestershire Cricket Club. Imran Khan made his debut for Pakistan at the age of 18 in 1971 at Birmingham. Imran Khan also served Pakistan Cricket team as a captain. He was a very successful captain Pakistan has ever had. He captained Pakistan from 1982 to 1992. Imran Khan also started a fundraising campaign to build a cancer hospital in Lahore in the name of his mother, Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital. Imran Khan took retirement from cricket in 1992 as one of Pakistan’s most successful players. Later, Imran Khan was also inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2010.

Imran Khan’s Cricketing Career:

Imran Khan is the finest and ever greatest player Pakistan has ever produced. Imran Khan is that cricketer under whose Captaincy Pakistan has won the first and the only ICC ODI World Cup in Australia by defeating England in 1992. Imran Khan started his Test career in June, 1971 by playing against England at Birmingham. Imran Khan was one of the best al-rounder of his time. IK played Eighty Eight Test matches with One hundred and twenty six innings with an average of roundabout 37 runs per innings. Imran Khan highest score was One hundred and thirty six. Imran scored 6 hundreds and a total of Eighteen half centuries. IK played one hundred and seventy five One Day International matches with an average of 33.41 with the bat. He did his ODI Debut against England in August, 1974 at Nottingham. His highest score in ODI with the bat is one hundred and two (not out). If you talk about his bowling stats in Tests and ODI matches there as fabulous as that of batting stats in both the formats. He took Three hundred and sixty two wickets in the Test matches while One hundred and eighty two in the ODI matches. Under Imran Khan’s captaincy Pakistan has won many Test as well as ODI series. He is the most successful Captain in the history of Pakistan Cricket.

Imran Khan’s Political Career:

Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf was founded by Imran Khan the cricketer become politician on April 26, 1996. PTI always raises the slogan of “Change” a “NAYA PAKISTAN”. In the start there were very few people to support PTI and its agendas and policies. PTI struggled a lot in their initial days. In 2008 general Elections PTI boycotted the elections. But if you talk about PTI and Imran Khan, in 2011 PTI started its political activities and become very much active in politics. Imran and his party PTI gathered a huge public in Lahore at Minar-e- Pakistan. Then Imran Khan and PTI displayed back to back their political power by gathering huge crowds at different venues and in different cities. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is also known as the party of youth. The youth of Pakistan always supported PTI in every thick and thin. There is a huge majority of youth in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf as compare to any other political party of Pakistan. In 2013 general elections PTI got the highest number of votes from all over the Pakistan but they only succeeded to form government with the help of other political parties in Khyber Pakhtoon Khawa. PTI has 32 seats in National Assembly of Pakistan.
